Ekiti State Governorship Election Live Update

Governorship Campaigns are over in Ekiti state, and today Saturday, July 14, 2018, is the governorship election date in Ekiti state.

The incumbent deputy governor, Kolapo Olusola Eleka of the Peoples Democratic Party is seeking to succeed his boss as the new governor of the state, the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi is also seeking to come back for a second term.

According to a list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in May, a total 39 candidates will slug it out today.

 4:49 PM – Voting still ongoing at PU 004, Ward 09, Efon Alaaye LGA, Ekiti.

4:30 PM – Still in Ado-Ekiti, police have arrested some persons distributing money for votes at Ajilosun area. They were taken away in a police vehicle after the arrest.

4:15 PM – Ayo Arise, a former senator who voted at ward 1 unit 5, Oye Ekiti, said there were incidents of multiple voting but Sani Nafisat, presiding officer of the unit denied any case of multiple voting.

4:12 PM – Caleb Ikechukwu, police spokesman in EKit, says he can’t confirm the arrest of EKSU VC. Fayemi campaign team had said the VC was arrested for mobilising thugs

3:27 PM – Fayemi wins his polling unit

Kayode Fayemi, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate, has been declared winner in his polling unit of Isan Ward 11, Unit 9.

The results confirmed by the agents of the various political parties are:

APC- 186

PDP – 2

APA – 1

Unused papers – 145

Total registered voters – 345

14:04 PM – Meanwhile, the INEC office in Ado-Ekiti where results will be announced is still under construction

13:50 AM – Fayose casts his vote

“There is danger ahead, but head and tail, I will win this election,” Fayose says

“Card readers not working in almost 50% of the local government areas,” Fayose says as the card reader is yet to respond. “National embarrassment,” he says, hissing.

12:51 AM – Meanwhile at Fayemi’s unit, this elderly woman says she collected N2,300 compared to four years ago when she got N2,500 and a small bag of rice

11:40 AM – “We expected that Fayose will be the first to arrive here to vote and mobilise people, but we can’t understand why he’s yet to come,” another voter says.

“I don’t really know why he’s not here to vote, this is very unlike the Fayose we know,” one of the voters tells TheCable

All accredited voters at Fayose’s unit have voted but the governor is yet to come.

10:21 AM – Meanwhile, there have been reports of inducement of voters. The two major parties in the election have been accused of trying to influence voters
