6 Shops Burnt Beyond Recognition In Kano

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sagir Madaki has announced that about six shops have been burnt down at Kofar Wambai Jewelry Market (Kasuwar ‘Yan Yeri) in Kano yesterday night.

He said “we received a distress call from Kofar Wambai Police Division at about 8:57p.m that there was fire outbreak at the market.

“On receiving the information, we quickly sent some of our personnel and firefighting vehicles to the scene of the incident at about 9:05pm to quench the fire.”

Madaki said with the help of the fire services, they were able to put the fire under control and stop it from spreading to other shops.

He said that the cause of the fire has not been ascertained but it was being investigated.

He advised traders at the market to exercise care and stop using instruments or equipment capable of starting fire, so as to prevent the incidence from re-occuring in the future.

The director also advised the people to keep fire bucket, fire blanket and fire extinguisher that would enable them to curtail the spread of fire before calling on the fire service.
