1. President Buhari warns against fake news on farmers/herdsmen clashes

The Federal Government has admonished the members of the public, including international communities to stop spreading false stories and inflammatory statements concerning the recent herder-farmer clashes.

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, on Sunday, said the Nigerian government is working closely with state governments and the security services as well as international partners to resolve this ongoing issue.

2. 30,000 policemen to be deployed for Ekiti governorship election

Ahead of the Ekiti State election, the Nigeria Police force has deployed 30,000 operatives, two helicopters, 250 patrol vehicles, and five Armoured Personnel Carriers for the July 14 governorship election.

Joshiak Habila, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Operations, will oversee the security operation for the election and will be assisted by an Assistant Inspector-General of Police, four Commissioners of Police, eight Deputy Commissioners of Police and 18 Assistant Commissioners of Police.

3. Nigeria to get new national carrier before end of 2018

Nigeria’s proposed national airline for Nigeria is expected to start operation in the next few months.

The minister of state for aviation, Hadi Sirika said the proposed national airline for Nigeria would be unveiled before the end of the year.

4. PDP demands Kemi Adeosun’s sack over alleged NYSC certificate forgery

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has charged President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately sack, arrest and arraign his minister of finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun for alleged criminal forgery of her NYSC certificate.

PDP urged President Buhari not to provide a cover for Adeosun in the character of his Presidency whenever close allies or agents are found wanting on issues of corruption.

5. APC wants to shut me up- Senator Abaribe

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial district, said he was recently arrested because the rulling All Progressives Congress (APC) wanted to shut him up.

He made the disclosure on Saturday during a reception held in his honour in Aba, Abia state.

6. Fire engulfs NNPC depot in Minna

Parts of the Minna depot of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) in Pogo has been gutted by fire.

No life was lost in the incident, even as emergency and security officials said they are yet to take data of items lost in the disaster.
The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mallam Ibrahim Yahaya, he said “for now we have not been able to ascertain casualties.”

7. Main APC drags r-APC and its members to court

The All Progressives Congress on Sunday disclosed that legal actions would be taken against the National Chairman of the Reformed-APC, Alhaji Buba Galadima, and other members of the group.

APC Legal Adviser, Babatunde Ogala accused Galadima and other R-APC leaders of impersonation, fraudulent interpretation, conducts likely to breach public peace, breach of trademark and infringement of copyright.

8. INEC to suspend PVC registration by August 17

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has announced a temporary suspension of the ongoing continuous voter registration, CVR, exercise.

The commission said the exercise will be temporarily suspended on August 17 to allow more time for data capturing and production of permanent voter cards, PVCs. Augusta Ogakwu, INEC Secretary, made the announcement via a memo.

9. Governor Samuel Ortom partially dissolves Benue cabinet

Samuel Ortom, the Governor of Benue State has dissolved the Benue State Executive Council (SEC)

Prof. Anthony Ijohor, the Secretary to the Benue State government in a statement made the dissolution of the cabinet known, which he described as “partial,” and it takes immediate effect.

The statement reveals that only four out of the 16 commissioners and seven out of 19 Special Advisers were retained.

10. South East Governors reject cattle ranching in their states

Governors of the South-East states have resolved that no land would be made available for the establishment of cattle ranches in the zone. This decision was taken at their meeting in Enugu on Sunday.

The meeting, which held at the Enugu State Government House, had the governors of Enugu (Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi), Ebonyi (Dave Umahi) in attendance, while Abia and Anambra were represented by the deputy governors.
