Pakistan’s Ex-Prime Minister, Daughter Sentenced 10 & 7 Years Imprisonment Respectively

A Pakistani anti-graft tribunal has convicted the country’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and sentenced him to 10 years in prison over corruption.

Naija News Learnt that Sharif, the three times prime minister, was also awarded one-year in prison for “not cooperating” with the National Accountability Bureau or NAB, Pakistan’s anti-graft body. Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz was also awarded seven-year jail term.

The court also imposed 8 million pounds penalty on Nawaz Sharif and 2 million pounds fine on Maryam Nawaz.  NAB had earlier said Nawaz Sharif and his family members had acquired four flats in Avenfield House, Park Lane, London but had not disclosed the property.

Judge of the court-ordered confiscation of the flats, according to the verdict. Abbasi said Nawaz Sharif has the right to challenge the verdict in superior judiciary within 10 days.

Nawaz Sharif was not in the court when the judge announced the verdict. He is in London to look after his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, who suffers from cancer.

Meanwhile, The Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) party rejected the verdict as “politically motivated.”The Friday’s verdict was one of the three corruption cases against Nawaz Sharif and his family.
