1. President Buhari issues executive order on corruption

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared national emergency on corruption by signing the executive order no. 6, warning that institutions, agencies and individuals must own the fight to reverse the negative culture of pilfering public funds, or risk plunging the country into turmoil.

In a statement by his Special Adviser On Media And Publicity, Femi Adesina, The President noted that it was a measure that has become necessary to retool and “re-kit and re-tool” his administration’s fight against corruption.

2. Court declares Imo APC ward, local government and state congresses null and void

An Owerri based Federal High Court, Imo state, has, on Thursdays, annulled the Ward and Local Government Congresses of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Imo State.

With the claim that APC Ward and Local Government Congresses were never held in the state in the first place, Justice Lewis Allagoa, gave his verdict in his ruling that lasted for two hours.

3. CAN declares July 11 for nationwide protest over killings

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called on all Nigerians within and outside the country, to join Christians on 11 July, 2018 for a Peaceful Protest against the incessant killings across the country.

It has also declared July 9-11, 2018 as National Days of Prayers and fasting against unwarranted killings in the country.

4. Senate to investigate death of corper who was allegedly shot dead by policeman few days to her passing out ceremony

The Nigerian Senate has resolved to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of Miss Linda Angela Igwetu, the NYSC Corper who was allegedly shot by a Police Office.

Senator Atai Aidoko, citing Order 42 and 52, raised the issue, stating that while on her way home with her friends, the corper was shot and rushed to Garki hospital, Abuja but was not treated because they needed a police report.

5. Buhari holds closed door meeting with three APC governors

President Muhammadu Buhari and three state governors, elected under the umbrella of ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) held a closed door meeting at the presidential villa yesterday following the breakaway declaration by the reformed APC.

The state Governors in attendance are Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State and Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State. They however claimed their discussion had nothing to do with the APC.

6. 2019: 36 political parties gang up against APC

36 political parties have formed a coalition to wrestle power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) during the forthcoming 2019 presidential elections in the country.

‎The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, Chief Olu Falae, disclosed this to news men in Abuja on Wednesday when he hosted the representatives of the Chairmen of the parties of the Coalition under the umbrella of the ‘Coalition of Concerned Political Parties”, (CCPP), in continuation of the group’s consultations ahead of 2019.

7. Alao-Akala joins 2019 Oyo governorship race

A former Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Christopher Alao-Akala, has declared his intention to seek for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress.

Akala made his intention known when he received letters of offer to contest presented to him by the Chairman of Akala Support Group, Dr. Fola Akinosun, at his Bodija residence in Ibadan.

8. Dogara receives bill seeking to amend 1999 constitution to allow state police

The Speaker of the house of representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has received a bill seeking to amend the 1999 Constitution to accommodate state police.

The bill was transmitted to Dogara by the sponsor and Leader of the House, Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila.

9. INEC may stop voter registration in August

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it may suspend the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in August.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, at a media briefing in Abjuja on Thursday, said from previous experience, the timeline required from the close of registration to the point of production and issuance of PVCs to prospective voters was about 120 days.

10. Adamu Ciroma dies at 84

Nigeria’s elder statesman, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, has died yesterday in an Abuja hospitalat the age of 84.

The news of the death of the former minister and CBN governor was disclosed by family members.
