1. Protesters storm National Assembly, demand Saraki’s removal

Hundreds of protesters, yesterday stormed the National Assembly complex in Abuja to demand the immediate resignation of Dr. Bukola Saraki as the President of the Senate.

Their activities forced security operatives to shut the gates in order to prevent break down of law and order.

2. Unknown gunmen kill seven policemen in Abuja

Seven policemen has been reported killed and many civilians injured as gunmen opened fire on policemen who were on stop-and-search duty operation at Galadimawa roundabout, a suburb in Abuja.

The gunmen were reported to have opened fire when they were stopped by the policemen for a random search.

3. NYSC begins registration for 2018 batch b prospective corp members

The management of the National Youth Service Corps, (NYSC), have announced registration guidelines for 2018 prospective Batch B corp members.

The statement advised prospective corp members to follow released guidelines and complete registration within prescribed time.

4. President Buhari hosts French President, Macron in Abuja

President of France, Emmanuel Macron, yesterday visited President Muhammadu Buhari at the state house in Abuja where the two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest to their countries.

The visit is part of the French President’s visit to Nigeria, who also visited Lagos state.

5. Police arrest 8 suspects in connection with Benue killings

No fewer than eight suspected bandits in connection with several killings in Benue have been arrested by the Nigerian Police Force.

The Force Spokesman, Acting DCP Jimoh Moshood, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on the arrest of the suspects on Tuesday in Abuja, adding that items recovered from them include two AK 47 rifles, a locally made pistol and 436 rounds of AK 47 ammunition.

6. Senate to amend constitution to allow for state police

The Senate yesterday reviewed the security situation in the country, with a resolution to amend the constitution to accommodate creation of State and Community Police.

It has therefore mandated the Constitution Review Committee headed by the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, to come up with a draft amendment to the section of the constitution relating to state police within two weeks.

7. INEC denies plans to rig Ekiti governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission has rebutted allegations made by the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, that it was colluding with some interested parties to rig the July 14 governorship election.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, stated that the allegations were untrue and baseless.

8. Senators blame Buhari for sponsoring protesters against the National Assembly

Following yesterday’s protest at the gate of the National Assembly complex over 2018 budget padding, some senators have blamed the executive arm of government for sponsoring the protesters.

They claimed the protests are been sponsored by a serving minister and those close to President Buhari.

9. DSS arrest two school officials in Ekiti over PVC scam

Operatives of the Department of State Services acting on a tip off, yesterday reportedly stormed
Ola Oluwa Muslim Grammar Schoolin Ekiti state over PVC scam.

The security operatives arrested one Mrs. Olagbemi, Secretary to the Principal, and one Mrs. Ogunrinde, Office Assistant to the Principal, but the principal himself, Mr. Sunmonu Olaoye, was said to be absent from the school throughout the stay of the DSS operatives in the school.

10. Sweden and England qualify for World cup quarter finals

England and Sweden defeated Columbia and Switzerland respectively to book a place in the quarter final phase of the Russia 2018 World cup tournament.

Sweden beat Switzerland by a single goal while England won a penalty shoot out against Columbia after the game ended 1-1.
