1. 10 die, four kidnapped in fresh attacks on Plateau state

Two fresh attacks in Plateau State have claimed the lives of 10 more persons.

Saturday night attack in Mangu claimed six lives. Also four died early yesterday in the Barkin Ladi incident, forcing the special military task force Operation Safe Haven to move its headquarters to Barkin Ladi to end killings after the renewed attacks.

2. Hakeem Baba-Ahmad, chief of staff to Saraki dumps APC

Senate President Bukola Saraki’s chief of staff, Hakeem Baba-Ahmad has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming they have disappointed Nigerians.

While speaking with reporters on Monday, he said he has forwarded a copy of his resignation letter to the party chairman of his ward.

3. Police deny protest of its personnel in Maiduguri, blames budget delay for failure to pay allowance

The police authorities have reacted to the protest by mobile policemen in Maiduguri on Monday over the non payment of allowances running to six months.

In reaction, a statement from the force public relations officer, Acting DCP, Jimoh Moshood, said the allowances would have been settled if the if the budget had been approved earlier, further stating that with the 2018 national budget now signed into law, funds would soon be made available to settle the allowances.

4. Court grants Dasuki N200m bail

A federal high court in Abuja on Monday, granted bail of N200m to the immediate-past National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd).

Delivering judgment in the suit filed by the ex-NSA in March this year, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu ruled that his detention since December 29, 2015, amounted to a violation of his right to liberty.

5. Why Buhari should arrest Miyetti Allah leaders – Mike Ozekhome

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome has said he would sack security chiefs and arrest leaders of Miyetti Allah over killings in the country if he was President Muhammadu Buhari.

Ozekhome said this while speaking the spate of killings in Nigeria, noting that the present security measures put in place is not working, hence the need for a change.

6. Mikel Obi’s father rescued from kidnappers

Pa Michael Obi, father of Super Eagles captain, Mikel Obi, who was kidnapped last week, has been rescued.

The Enugu State Police Command said its operatives in the 9th Mile Division rescued Pa Obi and his driver, at about 2:30pm on Monday in Egede Udi forest, along old Egede Affa road in the state.

7. Presidency summons IGP over Maiduguri police protest

The Presidency on Monday reportedly summoned the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, over the protest by police officers in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The police officers were said to have protested over non-payment of their monthly salaries and allowances.

8. Nigeria’s security chiefs are incompetent and should be sacked – Melaye

The Senator representing Kogi West senatorial district in the upper house of the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has spoken out against the wanton killings in the country, particularly, the recent killings in Plateau state.

The Senator decried the seeming inability of security agencies to prevent the attacks or bring perpetrators to book after the offences are committed, calling for their sack.

9. Former Boko Haram commander says Shekau is not sick

Former Boko Haram Commander, Rawana Goni (32), who is undergoing rehabilitation at a military detention camp in Maiduguri, Borno has made it clear that Shekau is not sick, as against media’s report during the weekend.

He added that anyone claiming Shekau is sick is deceiving himself.

10. Giwa resumes as NFF president

The lingering leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took a dramatic twist yesterday as one of the factions; Ambassador Chris Giwa finally resumed office at the Glass House.

Ambassador Giwa, apparently relying on the Supreme Court judgment of April 27, 2018, which allegedly set aside the purported election of the Amaju Pinnick board into the Executive Committee of the NFF of September 30, 2014, stormed the football secretariat at exactly 10.00 am with two trucks load of policemen.
