1. President Buhari visits Bauchi on condolence visit

President Muhammadu Buhari, on Thursday, paid a sympathy visit to Bauchi state over the recent hazards which affected the state.

The State was recently affected by a windstorm that killed not less than 30 people and another fire which destroyed up to 700 shops in Azare market.

2. Absence of Judge stalls El-Zakzaky’s trial

The trial of Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky could not hold yesterday as the presiding Judge, Justice Gideon Kurada of a Kaduna High Court was absent in court.

The counsels to both parties thereafter agreed on July 11 date to return to court.

3. DSS arrests former Benue state governor, Gabriel Suswan

A former governor of Benue state, Gabriel Suswam, has been arrested by the Department of State Service, DSS, on Wednesday.

The former governor was arrested after the incumbent governor, Samuel Ortom, allegedly petitioned the DSS over the security situation in the state.

4. Fire destroys property worth millions in several shops in Ondo state

No fewer than 100 lock up shops were ravaged by fire in Akure, the Capital Of Ondo state.

The fire broke out from one of the shop around 1am in the midnight and spread to several other shops, destroying property worth several millions in the process.

5. Nigerian Army offers N5m reward for information on bomb making factory

The Nigerian army has announced a reward for anyone who provides useful information on bomb making factories in the North-East part of the country.

Theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas announced that the command was ready to pay the sum of N5 million to anyone who could provide such information on IED factories.

6. DSS arrests two ISIS commanders in Nigeria

The Department of State Services, on Thursday, announced the arrest of Bashiru Adams and Rufai Sajo, both suspected to be commanders of the budding Islamic State in West Africa (ISWA).

The information is contained in a statement released by Tony Opuiyo, which revealed that the major suspects were nabbed on May 5 this year at Kukuntu village, Gwagwalada area council, FCT, Abuja.

7. Buhari lacks mental capacity to implement 2018 budget – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has come for President Buhari, stating that he lacks the capacity to implement and run a development-oriented economy as desired by Nigerians.

The party, which released a statement signed by Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, National Publicity Secretary, in Abuja on Wednesday in reaction to the 2018 budget, said the President’s action was an indication that the economy is in very bad hands.

8. Top lawyer, Nwobike stripped of SAN title

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee said it had withdrawn the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Dr. Joseph Nwobike, who was in April convicted by the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja and sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment.

Nwobike was convicted of making attempts to pervert the course of justice by engaging in constant communication with court officials to influence the assignment of his cases to his preferred judges.

9. Shiites kill policeman in violent clash

A Policeman has been reported killed in renewed Shiites protests over the continued detention of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim Elzakzaky.

The Spokesman for the Kaduna State Police Command, Mukhtar Aliyu, who confirmed the incident which took place on said the policeman was walking along the road when the Shiite members stabbed him with knives and stones until he gave up the ghost on the spot.

10. Argentina loses match against Croatia

Argentina risk been dumped out of the ongoing World Cup tournament in Russia as they suffered a shock 3-0 loss in their second group game against Croatia.

The Argentine national team now have a single point from two games and only have one more game to play in the group stages of the competition.
