A cadet at the United States Military Academy in West Point (NY), who wore a T-shirt with Che Guevara’s famous print at his graduation ceremony, was expelled from the US military.

Spenser Rapone, 26, was dismissed for “misconduct.” After graduating he would serve as second lieutenant in Army infantry.

He probably will not be able to enlist ever again nor receive benefits reserved for veterans.

Investigation

The military began an investigation into Rapone in October last year after he posted pro-communism photos on the social networks, showing that he wore an Argentine guerrilla underneath his uniform. Another image showed the inscription “communism will win” written on the inside of his cap.

The photos revoked and Rapone was nicknamed “communist cadet”, which generated indignation among the military and motivated the investigation.

The Army has found dozens of communist phrases and memes on the young cadet’s Twitter page. He also made several disrespectful comments about his fellow officers.

On Tuesday, the Army announced that the process had been completed.

“Due to privacy restrictions, we can pass on very limited information,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nina Hill, a spokeswoman for the institution.

“We can confirm, however, that we conducted a full investigation and that appropriate actions were taken,” Hill said.

In interviews with the American press, Rapone said that he considered himself a revolutionary socialist.

He was invited to attend the 2018 Socialism conference in Chicago, USA, in July.
