June 12: Read The Alleged Speech Abiola Gave Which Led To His Arrest

The June 12, 1993 election which was acclaimed to have been won by late MKO abiola, but was annulled by Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida’s led Military, is still widely regarded as the most free and fair election held in Nigeria so far.

Upon seeing that the Nigerian Government which was led by General Sani Abacha were not going to yield, Chief Abiola, flanked by his wife, Late Alhaja Kudirat Abiola as well as supporters converged at Epetedo, Lagos where he made the now famous ‘Epedeto Declaration’. Date was June 11, 1994.

More Lawmakers Join Buhari Support Group, Bluff Saraki

The Buhari Parliamentary Support Group (PSG) has been gaining more lawmakers as members at the National Assembly despite a ban by Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

According to Daily Trust, lawmakers who do not support the views of the joint executive session of the Senate and the House of Representatives, have opted for PSG.

Court Convicts Former Governor Joshua Dariye Of Fraud

The federal high court sitting in Gudu, Abuja, has found Joshua Dariye, former Governor of Plateau State, guilty of corrupt activities levelled against him by the EFCC.

Dariye is standing trial before Justice Adebukola Banjoko for unlawfully transferring state funds running to the tune of N1.126bn from the state’s ecological funds to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

June 12: President Buhari Apologizes To Abiola’s Family

President Muhammadu Buhari, has on behalf of the federal government of Nigeria, tendered an unreserved apology to the family of the late Chief MKO Abiola over the pain and injustice caused the family by the then military administration in the country.

Buhari stated this at the investiture of the Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) award on the late winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which held at the Banquet Hall of the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.

President Buhari Appoints New Heads For Federal Agencies

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of new heads for two federal agencies and tenure renewal of six others.

In a statement, Olusegun Adekunle, Permanent Secretary (General Services Office) Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation said the president approved the appointments on Tuesday in Abuja.

Ekweremadu Calls For More Women Participants In Politics

The Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, on Tuesday, called on a higher percentage of women to join politics as he believes that this would foster rapid development in the country.

Ekweremadu made the call at a workshop on “2019 Elections and Policymaking: Making Women Issues Matter” organised by Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre (PLAC) in Abuja.
