Supori Community Of Lagos State Decry Demolition Of 250 Buildings, Call For Governor Ambode’s Swift Intervention

About 150 protesters on Wednesday, carrying placards stormed the Lagos State House of assembly with the messages of “Save our souls Governor Ambode,”  “Save our souls Governor Ambode, Supori Community LCDA over demolition of our houses from Ministry of Agriculture and Lagos State build control agency, among others.

Mr. Timothy Aransiola, the Assistant Secretary of the Residents and Landlords Association of Supori Community in Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), narrated how the Ministry of Agriculture and Lagos State controlled agency (LSBCA) invaded the community and destroyed over 250 houses.

According to him, “On the 5th of April this year we were jolted out of sleep when a detachment of mobile police men came with bulldozers and destroyed over 250 of our houses without any prior notice. We have lived in the community for over seven years and we did not receive any letter of any breach of conduct.

“Our properties have full documents covering our residency and construction of the buildings. It was a very big shock for us to wake up and discover that our houses have gone in a twinkle of an eye.

“Some of our members have lost their lives as a result of this problem and some are down with stroke.

“We were here before this time and we were not given the necessary attention until we engaged the services of a lawyer.

“We were here last Wednesday after our lawyer wrote o the government. We were asked to come back today if we did not get a reply.

The Secretary of the Association who expressed confidence in Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said,
“I am optimistic that he would do something but in the event that nothing positive happens, I will bring my mat to this secretariat and be sleeping here because as we speak I don’t have any where to go. I am about 60 years old and what can a 60-year-old man achieve again in life? he queried.
