1. President Buhari charges Eagles to win World Cup

President Buhari on Wednesday, charged the Super Eagles to make Nigerians proud by bringing home the 2018 World Cup trophy.

He stated this when he hosted the team in Abuja before their departure for England ahead of their friendly game against the Three Lions.

2. Dino Melaye technically dumps APC for PDP

Embattled Kogi state lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has technically, dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Melaye, while speaking during plenary on the floor of the Senate, requested the Senate leadership to create a seat for him in the opposition wing of the Senate.

3. Court sentences Jolly Nyame to 14 years in prison

Jolly Nyame, former Governor of Taraba State, who was accused of misappropriating about N1.6bn of the state’s funds and has been found guilty by a federal high court sitting in Gudu, Abuja, and sentenced to 14 years in prison without option of fine.

The judgement was delivered by Justice Adebukola Banjoko on Wednesday.

4. Police arrest Benjamin Onwuka over Biafra day protests

The leader of Biafran Zionist Movement (BZM), Benjamin Onwuka has been arrested By the Nigerian Police as he and his group were marching to place the Biafran flag at the Enugu State Government House, Naija News understands.

Ebere Amaraizu, the Spokesman of Enugu State Police Command, confirmed Onwuka’s arrest in a statement he circulated to journalists in Enugu.

5. JOHESU to suspend strike on Friday

The Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, has finally agreed to suspend its 44 days old strike on Friday June 1, 2018.

The National Health Union body agreed to suspend it strike due to the intervention of the National Industrial Court, NIC, which offered to take over the mediation process between the striking health workers and the government.

6. Fayemi resigns as minister to focus on Ekiti governorship

Dr. Kayode Fayemi has on Wednesday, resigned his appointment as a federal minister in charge of mines and steel development in President Buhari’s cabinet to concentrate on the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Fayemi, as reported by Naija News, had earlier emerged the APC flag bearer for the Ekiti governorship elections, and had promised to resign his appointment as a minister.

7. National Assembly embarrassed by Jega’s allegation of corruption

Senate President, Bukola Saraki has described as “embarrassing” allegations by a former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof. Attahiru Jega, that members of the National Assembly are bribe-takers.

Jega had during his lecture organised to commemorate the 2018 Democracy Day, said chairmen of committees in the National Assembly were more notorious for bribe taking antics.

8. House of Reps member, Adams Jagaba dumps APC for PDP

Chairman of the House of Representative Committee on Interior, Adams Jagaba, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Jagaba represents Kachia/kagarko federal constituency of Kaduna state.

9. Saraki denies discussing CCT trial with Osinabajo during nPDP meeting

Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, today denied any reports his meeting with members of the nPDP and Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo contained discussions about his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT.

According to him, contrary to rumours been circulated, the issue of CCT and that of Supreme Court were never discussed at the meeting.

10. Gernot Rohr drops four players from Super Eagles World Cup squad

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has dropped four players from the provisional World Cup squad list earlier released.

Dele Ajiboye, Stephen Eze, Uche Agbo, as well as NPFL striker, Junior Lokosa, were all dropped from the Russia bound team.
