Zidane Steps Down As Madrid Coach

Zinedine Zidane has announced his resignation as the head coach of Spanish club, Real Madrid, just five days after leading the club to an unprecedented third successive Champions League Victory.

Zidane however confirmed that he voluntarily left the position, and was not forced out of the club.

His decision was confirmed in a hastily packaged news conference on Thursday.

“It’s time to go. These players need a different discourse, a different methodology,” the former French player said.

“It’s my decision,” he said. “For many people, this will not make sense, but it does for me. It’s time for a change.”

Naija News recalls that the Frenchman’s last game in charge of the La Liga giants is the 3-1 Champions League final win over Liverpool on May 26.
