1. FG recovers over N500bn through whistle blowing policy

The federal government says it has recovered over N500 billion from its whistle blowing policy.

This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari during his democracy day address to Nigerians on Tuesday.

2. Buhari promises to sign ‘not too young to run’ bill

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, promised to sign the ‘not too young to run bill’ very soon.

The bill, which seeks to reduce the minimum age requirement for qualification for certain elective offices in Nigeria, had already been passed by both the Senate and House of Reps.

3. Minimum wage won’t be ready in September – Ngige

The Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige said yesterday that the new minimum wages expected to be approved by end of September would not materialise.

He clarified that the September date is just for conclusion of negotiation on the issue of the minimum wage.

4. Dayo Adeyeye decamps to APC

Former PDP spokesperson, Prince Dayo Adeyeye has defected to the All Progressives Congress.

The former Minister of State for ‎Works stated that he left the PDP in a bid to align with APC and its candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to rescue Ekiti state.

5. Court orders Buhari, Saraki to investigate N481b budget padding

A federal high court in Lagos has ordered that President Muhammadu Buhari as well as Senate President Bukola Saraki immediately demand a report of padding and stealing of some N481 billion from the 2016 Budget.

The judgment was delivered by Justice Mohammed Idris following a mandamus suit no: FHC/L/CS/1821/2017 brought by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP).

6. Health workers ordered to resume or face sack

The minister of health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has directed the governing boards of federal tertiary health institutions to convene emergency meetings of boards and order back to work the striking health workers.

In a press statement issued by the ministry on Monday, the minister also had an emergency meeting with the medical directors and chief medical directors of tertiary hospitals to review the status of services being rendered at the various health institutions in view of the ongoing strike.

7. Cattle rustlers kill 3, injure others in Kaduna

Three people have been killed and four others injured by suspected cattle rustlers in Kurega village in Chikun Local Government areas which shares boundary with Birnin Gawri local government in Kaduna State.

ASP Muhktar Aliyu, The Command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the incident happened Tuesday afternoon around 2:00pm.

8. Nigeria’s female peacekeeper gets UN medal award

Cdr. Olufunmilayo Amodu, serving with the UN Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), has been awaited with medal for her outstanding and excellent service.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Tuesday decorated her with the medal.

9. Ebonyi government warn state residents against IPOB’s sit at home order

Traders in Ebonyi who obverse the sit-at-home order by the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra today, Wednesday, May 30, will permanently forfeit their shops, Governor David Umahi said on Tuesday.

Umahi, who made the declaration in Abakaliki while addressing the people at the 2018 democracy day celebration, noted that such order would not be observed in the state.

10. Stop linking herdsmen killings with Danfodio – Group

The Jama’atu Nasril Islam on Tuesday knocked Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State, and a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, for linking the herdsmen killings across Benue, Taraba and other parts of the North, to the continuation of the late Usman Danfodio’s jihad.

The group warned the governor and his cohorts, not to take Nigerian Muslims for granted by denigrating the Muslim community.
