Gunmen Invade Catholic Seminary

Gun carrying criminals, suspected to be herdsmen, launched an attack on a Catholic seminary in Jalingo, Taraba state, on Monday morning, injuring some priests and students.

A priest was reportedly shot during the incident while others were also beaten up during the attack.

The happening was confirmed to TheCable by Evaristus Bassey, director of Caritas Nigeria, an agency of the Catholic Church.

Those injured during the attack are said to have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in the state where they are being treated.

The reason and extent of the attack could however, not be fully ascertained as at press time, but some properties belonging to the seminary, including cars, were said to have been destroyed.

Spokesman of the state police command, David Misal, also confirmed the development, but couldn’t give details of the happening as at when contacted.

Naija News recalls that in April, gunmen suspected to be herdsmen killed two priests at St. Ignatius’ Catholic Church, Ayar, Gwer east local government area of Benue state.

Those who lost their lives, were recently buried in a mass burial, with stakeholders calling on the government to step up security across the nation.
