Gun Men Attack Police In Taraba As Command Kill One, Arrest Three In Operation

The Taraba State Police Command, on Sunday reported that they have succeeded in killing one and arresting three suspected robbers in an operation.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. David Akinremi, reported that this was followed by a cross fire between the troops and the gang at Borno Kurku forest in the Bali Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner said in a statement the police team stormed the forest based on intelligence received at about 10am on Saturday.

“In the process, one of them was gunned down by the superior firepower of our operatives while three others were arrested.

“An Ak47 rifle with eight rounds of ammunition, some criminal charms, an army camouflage uniform and cutlasses were recovered from the suspects,” the statement read.

The police said the three suspects were Lawali Shehu, Halilu Umaru, and Isa Abdullahi.

Meanwhile Punch reports that fear of reprisals has forced both Fulani and the Mumuye natives to flee their villages especially at Dazan and Gadan Malari in the Yorro Local Government Area of the state.

Irate Mumuye youths had last week clashed with Fulani herdsmen in the area leading to the death of six persons.

The Chairman of Yorro Local Government Area, Joseph Sanweri,told News Men on Sunday that the Secretary of the local government, Daniel Dila, was arrested in connection with the violence in the area.

According to him, the secretary was arrested by the police based on reports that he  was involved in the killing of  six Fulanis and  their burnt houses.

Sanweri called on the people of the area to remain calm “as security personnel had been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.”

Similarly, Taraba State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP. David Missal, confirming the arrest, said several people were arrested in connection with the violence in the area.

Missal, who said the situation in the area was calm, warned against  groups sponsored counter attacks.
