1. President Buhari seeks senate approval for new CBN directors

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent five fresh CBN appointees to senate for approval.

The president urged the Senate to confirm the five people as non-executive directors of the board of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

2. Senate meets security chiefs behind closed doors

The Nigerian Senate is currently holding a closed-door meeting with the country’s security chiefs led by Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin and Director General of State Security Services, Lawal Daura.

They were summoned to brief the lawmakers as a result of a Senate resolution on the proliferation of dangerous firearms, spate of killings by terrorists and kidnapping by hoodlums across the country.

3. Osinbajo visits IDP camps in Nasarawa

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, visited IDP camps in Nasarawa state to get a first hand experience on the state of the camps.

Osinbajo, who was accompanied by Gov. Almakura during the visit, assured the IDP’s of government efforts to settle them back in their various towns.

4. President Buhari yet to receive 2018 budget – Udoma

Udoma Udo Udoma, the Minister of Budget and National Planning has revealed on Wednesday that the 2018 Budget recently passed by the National Assembly have not been received by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Last week, both chambers of the national assembly passed the budget.

5. Ondo state assembly reinstates impeached deputy speaker

The impeachment of the Ondo State Deputy Speaker, Iroju Ogundeji has been reversed by the house after a plea of reversal from the Governor of the state and Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

The reversal of the impeachment was moved in a motion by the Majority Leader, Hon. Gbenga Araoyinbo and seconded by Hon. Fatai Olotu from Akoko North East Constituency.

6. President Buhari orders release of fund for Ogoni clean up

Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and oil companies have been ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari to release fund within a very short period for the clean-up of Ogoni community.

Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachukwu, the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, revealed this on Wednesday in the first part of an 8-Part Series Podcast that focuses on the Niger Delta and security.

7. Bauchi State deputy governor resigns

Nuhu Gidado, The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State has resigned.

In a letter of resignation he submitted to Governor Mohammed Abubakar, He cited “waning enthusiasm for the job” as the reason for his resignation.

8. APC picks June 23 for national convention

The National Convention Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked June 23 as tentative date for the party’s convention instead of June 2 earlier scheduled.

Chairman of the committee and governor of Jigawa, Alhaji Abubakar Badaru, announced this on Wednesday in Abuja while inaugurating 12 sub-committees comprising 240 members for the national convention.

9. Court to continue Olisa Metuh’s trial in his absence

The trail of Olisa Metuh, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has been ruled by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, to continue in his absence.

In the ruling on Wednesday, Justice Okon Abang, said the court had the power to process with the trail in Metuh’s absence, in respect to the defendant’s previous attempts to stall the trail.

10. Arsenal confirm Unai Emery as new Arsenal manager

Arsenal have just confirmed the appointment of 46 year old former PSG manager, Unai Emery as the new coach of the London outfit.

The Spaniard, has signed a two-year deal at the Emirates Stadium.
