1. President Buhari advised to drop 2019 presidential ambition

The Coalition of Northern Youths have pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar to drop bids to contest in the 2019 elections and allow the youths to contest.

In a communique issued at the end of their summit in Kaduna on Monday, they told the two leaders to leave the stage for younger people between the ages of 18 to 60.

2. Olisa Metuh collapses in court

A former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, collapsed on Monday morning while he being docked for his resumed trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Metuh who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for the misappropriation of N400m he allegedly received fraudulently from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014 fell down, shortly after the case was called on Monday.

3. Police arrest Offa armed robbery suspects

The Nigerian Police have arrested two key members of Offa Kwara State multiple bank robberies and murders.

The arrested suspects are helping the police investigative team in the ongoing investigation.

4. Soludo proposes six year single tenure for presidency in Nigeria

Charles Chukwuma Soludo, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), today proposed a single tenure of six years for presidents and five years for vice-presidents, one from each geo-political zone serving at a time in the country.

Soludo proposed this at the south-east summit on restructuring Nigeria in Awka, Anambra state capital.

5. SGF, Boss Mustapha launches N64m website

A new website worth N64 million has been launched by Boss Mustapha, secretary to the government of the federation at his office in Abuja.

Mustapha explained that the former website was using old technology, could not accommodate security features and wasn’t compliant to one of the federal government’s executive order.

6. Nigerian army kills 35 militia herdsmen in Benue

Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) operating in Benue, Nasarawa, Taraba and Zamfara states conducted a four prong clearance operations during the weekend.

In all 35 herdsmen were neutralized and a large number of them escape with gun shot injuries. However, one personnel was killed in action (KIA), 2 sustained slight injuries but have been treated and discharged. Also, a personnel is still missing in action.

7. Lagos hits N34b monthly IGR

Lagos State Government has said it has so far achieved an average monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of N34 billion in 2018, compared to monthly averages of the last three years.

Commissioner for Finance, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade, disclosed this, yesterday, at the ongoing annual ministerial press briefing, to mark the third anniversary of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration.

8. Presidency denies giving N40m to CAN

The Presidency on Monday dismissed the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari gave the leadership of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, N40million for “transportation” when the body visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity Garba Shehu said the allegation was totally false.

9. Arsenal set to appoint Unai Emery as new coach

Unai Emery, former Paris Saint-Germain coach, is set to take over the baton from Arsene Wenger, after spending 22 years as the club coach.

The former PSG coach, who is 46 years old, won Ligue 1 and four domestic cups in two seasons in the French capital before departing earlier this month.

10. Atletico Madrid faces Super Eagles in Uyo

Atletico Madrid football club have named a 20-man squad for the friendly match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The Europa League winners arrived the country via the Ibom International Airport on Monday evening, and the game will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
