1. National assembly passes 2018 budget

The Senate and the House of Reps, yesterday passed the 2018 national budget for Nigeria following the consideration and adoption of the report by the joint National Assembly Committee on Appropriation.

The lawmakers jacked up the budget to 9.1 trillion naira.

2. Senate President Bukola Saraki accuses IGP Ibrahim Idris of trying to implicate him in criminal activities

The Senate president, Bukola Saraki, has alleged a plot by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to “frame and implicate” him.

The Senate President alleged that the police chief had transferred some criminal suspects undergoing interrogation in Kwara to make statements to implicate him.

3. Court sends former Plateau governor to prison

Former Governor of Plateau State, Senator Jonah Jang today has been arraigned at a state high court in Jos.

The former Governor who was accused of embezzling N6.3 billion, was ordered to be remanded in Jos Prison, pending when the Court would give its ruling on his bail application on Thursday next week.

4. Senator Dino Melaye gets N10m court bail

A Kogi state high court, sitting in Lokoja on Wednesday granted bail to Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi west senatorial district, on the suit of illegal possession of firearms brought against him.

Justice Nasir Ajana, who presided over the judgement, granted Melaye bail with the sum of N10 million and one surety.

5. Court dismisses senate’s application on suspension of Ovie Omo-Agege

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has dismissed an appeal application brought before it by the Senate, seeking the suspension of the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege from the upper legislative chamber.

The trial Judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba, while dismissing the application by the Senate and its President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said the application was misdirected and lacking in merit.

6. Court stops Police, DSS, others from searching Wike’s house

The Nigerian Police, the EFCC and the Department of State Security Service, (DSS), have been barred by a Federal High Court in Abuja from searching houses belonging to Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers.

The Government of Rivers State had approached the court praying an order of injunction restraining the IGP, the Police, the EFCC and the DSS from obtaining a search warrant to search any of his houses.

7. Segun Oni threatens to dump APC over Ekiti governorship primaries

The first runner-up in the Saturday All Progressives Congress primary in Ekiti State, Segun Oni, has threatened to leave the party if he is not treated with respect.

He also demanded that his supporters must be respected and not victimised by the winner of the primary, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and his supporters.

8. I am prepared to step down as Vice President – Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has declared that he didn’t beg to become the country’s number two man.

He said he is always ready to stand up and defend his faith.

9. Sultan declares Thursday, 17th May, start of Ramadan fast

Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Thursday as the first day for the beginning of the Ramadan fasting in Nigeria.

Sultan Abubakar announced the sighting of the new crescent in Sokoto on Wednesday in a broadcast.

10. Atletico Madrid lift Europa league trophy

Atletico Madrid have emerged champions in the Europa League again, following their comprehensive 3-0 win over Olympique Marseille in Wednesday’s final at the Groupama Stadium in Lyon.

Two goals from man-of-the-match, Antoine Griezmann and another late one from Captain Gabi gave the La Liga giants the well-deserved victory.
