1. President Buhari commissions new N24bn EFCC headquarters

President Muhammadu Buhari has formally commissioned the new Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarter office, located in Jabi, Abuja.

President Buhari while commissioning the 10-storey building said that his main objective is fighting corruption and also to protect the public trust of Nigerians.

2. El-Zakzaky and wife arraigned in court

Leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Ibrahim Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenat, have today been arraigned before a high court sitting in Kaduna state.

The Kaduna State government had sued the duo with a fresh 8-count charge, including two other people for allegely killing one Dankaduna, a soldier, in the convoy of the chief of army staff and for unlawful assembly.

3. Omo-Agege fails to resume in Senate as expected

Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, yesterday failed to resume plenary along with his colleagues as expected.

Omo-Agege was expected to resume after his suspension was overturned by a competent court of law and senate leadership decision to abide by the court judgement.

4. National assembly receives 2018 budget report

The much awaited report of the 2018 appropriation bill, has been received by the National Assembly on Tuesday.

The 2018 appropriation bill is expected to be passed into law before the week runs out.

5. Senate investigative committee summons Omo-Agege and Ali Ndume over stolen mace

In the continued investigation of Stolen mace Saga, the Senate and House of Representatives joint adhoc committee investigating the matter has summoned Ovie Omo-Agege (APC, Delta) and Ali Ndume (APC, Borno) respectively for alleged roles in aiding the invaders who stole the Senate mace.

The chairman of the investigating committee, Today Bala Ibn Na’Allah, issued the summon at the committee meeting in Abuja.

6. Vice President Osinbajo visits Benue state to assess security situation in the area

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has denied claims that the killings in Benue were the outcome of a planned agenda to eliminate the people.

Osibajo, who is Benue on a two-day working visit, made the denial on Tuesday during a stakeholders meeting at the Benue People’s Government House, Makurdi.

7. Nigerian army sets August deadline to eliminate Boko Haram in Lake Chad area

The Nigerian Army, on Tuesday said it has launched a new operation to totally flush out remnants of Boko Haram terrorists in the Lake Chad region.

Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, made this statement at a press conference in Maiduguri, noting that Operation Last Hold began on May 1, and will run till August 31, to accomplish its mission.

8. Sultan urges Muslims to watch out for commencement of Ramadan fast

The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar has urged Muslims across the country to watch out for the new moon which signifies the start of Ramadan fast on Wednesday.

The Sultan urges Muslims to pray for the nation during the holy month.

9. Police order more investigation into Makoko killings

Edgal Imohimi, Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, has instructed that a thorough investigation be carried out into alleged killing of three men during a raid by Lagos State Task Force on Land Grabbers at Ilaje area of Makoko, Lagos.

The Police Commissioner said that an unknown land grabber attacked the policemen and the task force officials during which they were forced to defend themselves, but order further investigation into the incident.

10. Two feared dead in Ekiti bank robbery attack

Suspected armed robbers attacked a bank in Ilawe-Ekiti, headquarters of Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area of Ekiti State, yesterday.

They reportedly left two people dead in their wake, even as eyewitnesses said the operation lasted over one hour and killed a policeman and a bank worker.
