Shiite protesters chase away policemen, ground federal secretariat

Again, Shiites Clash With Police In Abuja.

The Shiite group has resumed it weekly protest against the continued detention of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Naija News gathered that the protesting group have stopped all activities at the Federal Secretariat complex, Abuja, a few meters from the National Assembly and the Presidential Villa.
The youths, who were armed with stones, chased away a police team and overturned a traffic warden cabin on the road.

They also reportedly injured the Federal Secretariat Divisional Police Crime officer in the face after he asked them to stop harassing motorists.

Chanting “Free El-Zakyzaky,” the Shiite members dared the Police to engage and dislodge them.

The Shiite leader has been in government custody since he was arrested in 2015 and his followers have continued to demand his release by the government.

Naija News earlier published a story in which human rights group, SERAP, has dragged the federal government before the UN over its failure to obey court orders on the release of the Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.
