Senators Angry As IGP Ibrahim Idris Fails To Appear Before The Lawmakers

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has for the third time in a month, failed to appear before the Senate after he was summoned by the legislators.

As earlier reported by Naija News, the police boss was expected to brief the lawmakers on the arrest, detention, treatment and alleged manhandling of Senator Dino Melaye, as well as the spate of killings by armed herdsmen and militias across the country.

Recall that the Police IG was represented by the Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila, on the two previous occassions, but there was no representation on Wednesday as the IG failed to show up.

The Majority Leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, described the non-appearance as “unusual and unfortunate.”

Also, Emmanuel Bwacha urged the senators to take a drastic action in the light of the failure of the IG to appear before the Senate.

“We need to take a very drastic action. We cannot take this embarrassment any longer. This is a national disgrace,” he said.

The Senate has now entered a closed-door session to determine the next course of action.
