Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Bans Fayose And Aides From Voting At The Primaries, Says It is Precaution For Transparency.

The Ekiti State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided that only serving and former elected officials still in the camp of Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose will vote at the PDP governorship primary election scheduled for Tuesday in Ado Ekiti.

The list of delegates released by the party which was signed by the National Organizing Secretary, retired Col. Chris Akobundu,  revealed this information. The verdict also disqualified appointees of Governor Fayose from voting at the exercise.

It was gathered from PDP sources in Ado Ekiti that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party arrived at the decision in consonance with the Ekiti PDP Peace and Reconciliation Committee led by former Senate President, David Mark.

The disqualification of some of the governor’s aides, it was gathered, was also in a bid to ensure transparent conduct of the party’s primary.

Fayose’s aides, who had been disqualified by the party’s NWC, include Secretary to the State Government, Dr Modupe Alade and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Dipo Anisulowo, Commissioner for Health, Dr Rotimi Ojo; Commissioner for Works and Transportation, Mrs Funmilayo Ogun and Commissioner for Public Utilities, Chief Tunde Ogunleye among others.

Meanwhile, the Prince Adedayo Adeyeye Movement (PAAM) has warned local government chairmen against sewing uniforms to be worn by delegates to the primary.

PAAM Director of Publicity, Niyi Ojo, said information at the group’s disposal showed that the council chairmen had been ordered to produce and sew “aso ebi” in favour of an aspirant to the primary.

Ojo said the action contravened the provision of the Electoral Act, urging the electoral panel to disqualify any aspirant whose delegates wore dresses that ran foul of the law to the primary.

In another development, the state chapter of the PDP has condemned the violence which erupted at Saturday’s governorship primary of the opposition APC.

In a statement yesterday by its Publicity Secretary, Jackson Adebayo, PDP warned the APC against setting the state on fire over its primary election..
