1. President Buhari has technical stop over in London

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said Buhari had to move to London in what is described as a “technical stopover.”

Buhari, who travelled to the United States for a meeting with President Donald Trump, had left Washington, D.C. on Tuesday after the Monday meeting.

2. Dino Melaye sent to jail for 38 days

Senator Dino Melaye was yesterday denied bail and ordered to be remanded in prison custody for the next 38 days.

Melaye is standing trial for alleged kidnapping and gun running.

3. CBN signs $2.5b currency swap deal with China

Nigeria’s Central Bank said that it has signed a $2.5b currency swap agreement with its counterpart in China.

According to a statement signed by Mr. Isaac Okorafor, the Ag. Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, the deal was signed on Friday, April 27 2018, in China thereby ending an over two years of painstaking negotiations by both Central Banks.

4. President Buhari finally arrives Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday, finally touched down in Abuja, two days after he left the United States following an official visit to President Donald Trump.

The president reportedly landed at 10:17 p.m. at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport from London.

5. PDP tasks Osinbajo to name those who embezzled N3b under Jonathan’s administration

The main opposition party, PDP, has charged Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to disclose the names of those three persons he claimed stole $3 billion during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

This is contained in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.

6. Police shortlists 133,324 applicants for 6,000 jobs

The Police Service Commission (PSC) says 133, 324 applicants have being shortlisted for screening for the recruitment of 6,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force.

The commission’s spokesman, revealed that the exercise would start on May 7 in the 36 state police command headquarters and the Federal Capital Territory.

7. Reps may pass 2018 budget next week

The House of Representatives has said the 2018 Appropriation Bill will be passed into law, next week.
Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazak Namdas stated this to National Assembly Correspondents, yesterday.

The House spokesman said the 2018 budget will be laid in the chamber, next Tuesday, and passed within the week. The chamber had earlier scheduled passage of the budget for April 24.

8. 30 feared dead in Adamawa herdsmen attack

At least 30 people were feared dead as a group of armed herdsmen, numbering over 400, attacked and burnt down five villages, Bolki, Bang, Nzumoso, Boki and Gon, in Numan and Lamurde local government areas of Adamawa State.

The killers were said to have arrived the communities Wednesday night on motorcycles and in pick-up vans and began killing and burning down houses in the villages.

9. Southern, Middle belt leaders call for emergency over insecurity

Elder statesmen and leaders from the South- west, South-south and Middle Belt under the aegis of Leaders of South and Middle Belt Forum (LSMBF) have called for national emergency over the worsening security challenge in the country.

The leaders who made the declaration while on a courtesy visit to the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, said a restructured Nigeria anchored on devolution of power and functional fiscal federalism is the only way out of the crises.

10. Atletico Madrid defeats Arsenal to clinch Europa league final ticket

Spanish club, Atletico Madrid, defeated Arsenal 1-0 yesterday to record a 2-1 aggregate win and pick the ticket for the Europa league finals.

The game is the final European game for Arsene Wenger as Arsenal manager.
