1. President Buhari commissions NAF hospital in Bauchi state

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday as part of his official visit to Bauchi state, commissioned the 261 Nigerian Air Force Reference Hospital.

The president submitted that the hospital will help the military in the fight against insurgents in the north east.

2. Senate summons President Buhari to appear before it over security situation in the country

The Nigerian Senate has summoned President Muhammadu Buhari to appear at a joint session of National Assembly, at a yet-to-be agreed date, to brief lawmakers on measures to curb insecurity across Nigeria.

The House of Representatives had earlier summoned Buhari over the incessant killings in the Nigeria.

3. Police IG shuns Senate over Dino Melaye

The Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, yesterday, refused to honour the Nigerian senate’s invitation.

The Senate had summoned Idris over the arrest and detention of Senator Dino Melaye and the killings across Nigeria.

4. FG releases N135m to victims of Apo killings, four years after incident

The Federal government has on Thursday, compensated the family members and victims of the killing of eight persons by the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2013 with a cheque of N135 million.

The payment is coming four years and seven months after a panel of inquiry by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) ordered payment to the victims.

5. Senate orders NNPC to pay back N216m illegal subsidy funds paid to oil marketers

The Nigerian Senate has instructed the Nigerian National Petroleum Cooperation to refund two hundred and sixteen billion Naira, illegally used for fuel subsidy payments without appropriation, into the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

The Senate also ordered the NNPC to stop further payment of fuel subsidies.

6. APC tells Ali Modu-Sheriff to join party at ward level

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Nigeria has snubbed former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, who was scheduled to join the ruling party in Abuja today.

Sherrif who was billed to be received at the national headquarters by the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun and other members of the party’s National Working Committee was asked to go and join at his ward level.

7. Senator calls for President Buhari’s impeachment

Senator Matthew Urhoghide, yesterday, moved a motion for the impeachment of President Muhammadu Buhari over the payment of $496mn for purchase of Tucano jets without National Assembly approval.

Urhoghide is calling for invocation of Section 143 of 1999 Constitution which gives the NASS power to impeach the president.

8. Fresh herdsmen attack reported in Benue state

Invasion of another church by suspected herdsmen in Benue State has thrown residents of the state into another round of mourning.

The attack took place in a church and a primary school in Logo local government area (LGA) of the state yesterday, leaving at least seven people dead.

9. Bill Cosby found guilty of sexual assault charges

Embattled American entertainer, Bill Cosby has lost a long legal battle that was made unbearable at retrial as the first celebrity trial of the #MeToo era, after been convicted of sexual assault by a US jury.

Bill Cosby was convicted on Thursday of drugging and molesting a onetime friend in 2004.

10. Arsenal held at home by Atletico Madrid

Arsenal were held to a 1-1 draw in their Europa league semi-final clash against Atletico Madrid at the Emirates stadium on Thursday.

Gunners took the lead via Lacazzete’s goal but Griezman cancelled out the lead to put Atletico in the driving seat ahead of their second leg clash next week.
