Fresh Attacks In Benue State

Invasion of another church by suspected herdsmen in Benue State has thrown residents of the state into another round of mourning.

Naija News learnt that about seven persons were killed in the incident which was just two days after two priests and 17 church members were shot dead at a Catholic church in Gwer west local government area of the state.

The attack took place in a church and a primary school in Logo local government area (LGA) of the state on this morning.

According to Richard Nyajo, chairman of Logo local government, herdsmen were responsible for the attack, stating that they invaded three villages in Mbamondo clan very early in the morning, and stated shooting at people who were asleep in the church and school.

The victims were said to be taking refuge at the church following displacement from their communities.

Meanwhile, as earlier reported by Naija News, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has called for nationwide protest over the killings in Benue and other parts of the country.

In a statement by Adebayo Oladeji, the special assistant on media and communication to the CAN President, Revd. Dr Samson Ayokunle, the association said the high rate of killings in the country is slowly turning Nigeria into a state of anomie, urging Christians to hold a peaceful protest within their premises on Sunday, 29th April.
