1. Obasanjo and Falae meet behind closed doors

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olu Falae, on Tuesday, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

The meeting, which held behind closed doors at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL), lasted for about two hours.

2. Senate summons Kemi Adeosun, others over $462m helicopter purchase

The Senate has summoned the Minister of Defence Mansur Dan Ali, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele and the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun to appear before its Committee on Appropriation.

Adeosun and her colleagues were summoned before the Upper Chamber to explain why 462 million dollars was released for the purchase of helicopters by the Federal Government without senate approval.

3. INEC gets seven new resident electoral commissioners

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has sworn in seven new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) bringing the total number of serving RECs in the commission to 33.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, expressed confidence that the new RECs would contribute to the commission’s determination to make 2019 general elections the best in the country.

4. President Buhari appoints Festus Keyamo as campaign spokesperson

President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed popular human rights lawyer, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), as the Director, Strategic Communications for his 2019 presidential campaigns.

This means Keyamo would be the official spokesperson for the 2019 Buhari presidential campaigns.

5. Senate calls for sack of security chiefs over herdsmen killings

Senators during plenary Tuesday, called for the sack of the service chiefs over their failure to end the violent attacks on various communities and the gruesome slaughter of villagers.

The senators argued that their dismissal would pave the way for the appointment of new security chiefs who can introduce new strategies to curb the killings.

6. APC fixes May 14 for national convention

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has set May 14 as the date for its elective convention.

Party sources disclosed the decision on the convention was reached after a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party held yesterday afternoon.

7. President Buhari is cleaning up PDP mess – Tinubu

National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has stated that President Buhari’s administration is spending ample time cleaning up the mess PDP created in the sixteen years it was in power.

Tinubu spoke at the 35th Aminu Kano Annual Memorial Symposium organised by Mambayya House, Aminu Kano Centre for Research and Training, Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

8. Health workers begin nationwide strike

The Joint Health Sectors Union, (JOHESU), has embarked on an indefinite nationwide strike over what they termed the failure of the federal government to honour agreements with them.

JOHESU is made up of all health workers except doctors and dentists.

9. Angry IDPs stone Governor Al-Makura

Some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Agwatashi, Obi local government area of Nasarawa, stoned the convoy of Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura on Tuesday.

Al-Makura had visited the camp with security chiefs in the state to assess situation arising from the killing of 32 persons by suspected herdsmen.

10. We may shut national assembly to end herdsmen killings – lawmakers

The Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, has said the National Assembly may be shut to help President Muhammadu Buhari administration find an end to the spate of killings by herdsmen and militias across the country.

The lawmakers also noted that the campaign by the Federal Government for more foreign direct investments in the country might be hindered by the insecurity in the country.
