1. President Buhari Meets British Prime Minister, Theresa May

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, held bilateral meetings with British Prime Minister, Theresa May in London.

The meeting is part of the president’s official visit to the UK.

2. Buratai talks about how Boko Haram can be defeated

Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has reiterated the commitment of the Nigerian Army to collaborate with other African armies in the fight against Boko Haram and other terrorist group within African continent.

The Army Chief who said this today at the African Land Forces Summit in Abuja also says that despite the successes recorded in the ongoing anti-insurgency war, collaborative efforts are essential to defeat the Boko Haram sect.

3. Police clash with Shiite protesters in Abuja

Officers of the Nigerian Police, have forcefully dispersed some Shitte protesters in Abuja who are demanding the immediate release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky.

Eyewitnesses reports said the police fired teargas to disperse the protesters at the Unity Fountain, beside Transcorp hotel, as the protesters also stoned the police vehicle.

4. Reno Omokri lists Buhari, Lai Mohammed, others in his version of looters list

Ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan’s former spokesperson, Reno Omokri, has named President Muhammadu Buhari, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed in his own version of looters list.

In his statement, Omokri accused President Buhari of authorizing fuel subsidy payments even though the National Assembly made no appropriations for such payments in the 2016 and 2017 budgets.

5. Obasanjo, Falae in private meeting ahead of 2019 elections

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Chief Olu Falae, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), will meet 19 years after contesting against each other in 1999 during Nigeria’s Presidential election of the 4th Republic.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, 17th April, is expected to hold at Obasanjo’s Abeokuta residence and is reportedly centered around how to unseat President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

6. PDP chairman, Secondus accused by EFCC of receiving N250m from Dasuki

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, allegedly received N250m from the Office of the National Security Adviser under the leadership of the embattled former NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), an Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s report has said.

The report stated that Secondus allegedly received the money during the build-up to the 2015 general elections.

7. Okorocha wants to succeed Buhari in 2023

Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo state, has said he has plans to succeed the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari after his second term bid ends in 2022.

Okorocha made this statement today while hosting some political stakeholders at the state government house in Owerri.

8. Senator Adeleke declares governorship ambition

The dancing senator, Ademola Adeleke, representing Osun west senatorial district, has declared his interest to contest the September 22 governorship election in Osun state.

Adeleke, made this known in a letter he addressed to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

9. Police arrest 115 Shiite members

The Nigerian Police have arrested about 115 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria, also known as Shiite.

This follows the protest in Abuja, where the Shiite members are demanding the release of their leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, which led to a clash between the protesters and the security forces.

10. Joint health sector unions (JOHESU) begins strike today

The Joint Health Sector Unions, JOHESU, are set to commence an indefinite strike action today, and have threatened to disrupt every medical facilities in the country.

The members of JOHESU are hospital workers, including nurses and pharmacists, and excludes medical doctors and dentists.
