Police Arrests 115 Shi’ites Members

About 115 members belonging to the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) have been arrested by the federal capital territory (FCT) while protesting violently in Abuja.

According to the spokesman of the command, Anjuguri Manzah “No life was lost in the violent protest as the police operatives deployed to quell the protest were professional in handling the situation,”

Initially, Manzah had said that he had no information as regards the issue.

Naija News gathered that the protest by the Shi’ites group has been since December 2015 when Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, leader of the group, was arrested by the authorities.

A statement by the spokesman after Monday’s clash said that the protesters also wounded 22 policemen and destroyed government and police vehicles.

Anjuguri noted that items such as; Catapults, Iron bars, Stones, Ball bearings and Pink headbands were recovered from them.

He also said that the protestesters vandalised properties, attacked innocent citizens, disrupted business activities and smashed windscreen of vehicles in the affected areas.

“The arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation,” he said.

“The FCT police command hereby warns members of Shiites movement from further disrupting the peace, harmony and free flow of traffic in FCT.”
