1. Rowdy session as PDP Senator calls President Buhari incompetent

The Senate had some moments of rowdiness during yesterday’s plenary when Senator Eyninaya Abaribe, while speaking on the floor of the Senate, addressed President Buhari as incompetent.

This prompted reactions from other APC Senators, after which Senate President Bukola Saraki had to caution Abaribe on his choice of words.

2. Senate suspends Ovie Omo-Agege

The Senate has suspended Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege (APC Delta State) for 90 legislative days, following the adoption of a report of its committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions.

The committee had earlier recommended that the embattled senator be suspended for one year, but was reduced following pleas on his behalf by other senators, and the intervention of Senate President Bukola Saraki.

3. INEC rules out electronic voting in 2019

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu,has disclosed that it would not be employing electronic devices for purposes of collating and transmitting election results during 2019 poll.

He made this known at a press conference to mark the end of the three-day international conference on the use of technology for the conduct of elections in Africa.

4. Supreme court picks July 6 to rule on Saraki’s asset declaration case

The Supreme Court has set July 6 to deliver judgment in the appeal filed by the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, challenging the ruling of the Court of Appeal which asked the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to try him on three of the 18 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Saraki is facing trial over allegation of non disclosure of some assets.

5. Herdsmen kill 25 in fresh attacks in Taraba state

Herdsmen, suspected to be Fulani militia on Wednesday evening killed 25 people at Jandeikyula village in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba state.

The militia, numbering over 200, were said to have invaded the village at about 6 p.m. and shot sporadically killing anybody in sight and setting houses ablaze.

6. 2018 National Assembly budget to be made public

The senate has disclosed that its 2018 budget will not be shrouded in secrecy, but would be made available for the public.

This was disclosed by the senate majority leader, Ahmed Lawan in a chat with newsmen.

7. APC denies planning sole ticket for Buhari in 2019

The All Progressives Congress, has denied planning to grant automatic ticket to President Buhari as the party’s candidate for the 2019 presidential elections.

This was disclosed by the party’s national publicity secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi in a chat with newsmen in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

8. Boko Haram has kidnapped over 1,000 children in the north east – UNICEF

The United Nation Children Fund (UNICEF) has revealed that more than 1,000 children have been abducted by Boko Haram in the North East, Nigeria since 2013.

The figure includes 276 girls taken from their secondary school in the town of Chibok, on April 14, 2014.

9. Police invite Senator Shehu Sani in connection with murder case

The Kaduna state Police Commissioner, Austin Iwar, has written the Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, to appear on April 30 at the Command Headquarters in Kaduna for questioning.

The command said the invitation was in connection with a case of criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide where the principal suspect mentioned his name.

10. Arsenal held to a 2-2 draw but qualify for Europa league semi-finals on aggregate

Arsenal came from two goals down to draw the game against CSKA Moscow and qualify for the semi-final of the Europa Cup.

The gunners recorded a 6-3 aggregate win to progress into the semi-finals of the competition.
