Oyegun Has To Resign If He Wants To Contest Again – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared that members of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress, APC, are not eligible to seek reelection in the forthcoming congresses and national convention of the party except they resign and re contest for interested position(s).

He pointed out that based on the provision of Section 30 (1) (3), any officer currently serving and wants to seek re-election must resign their appointments 30 days before the election.

Buhari added that based on that provision, the current National Working Committee, NWC, and other officials across the states “are not eligible to run“.

The President however, said if they choose to seek re-election, they may be allowed through waiver.

Buhari stated that if the party wishes to grant such waiver, “a statement granting the waiver should be issued by the party immediately“.

Recall that as earlier reported by Naija News, the president spoke against the decision of the  APC NEC meeting back in February which moved for the controversial extension of the tenures of the Chief John Odigie-Oyegun-led APC NWC and other party officials across all levels by one year.

The President submitted that the tenure elongation contravened not only the party constitution but also the Nigerian constitution.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari, has at the APC NEC meeting held on Monday, declared his intention to run for the 2019 presidency under the platform of the APC.
