948 Guns Recovered By Police In Sokoto
Police Recovers 984 Arms in 24 Months
The Police Command in Sokoto State has revealed that it has recovered 948 guns under the state amnesty programme and police operations in last 24 months.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Murtala Mani, made this known at a news conference in Sokoto on Wednesday.
The commissioner of police in his statement, revealed that weapons that were released and surrendered, included AK47, double and single barrel and locally fabricated guns with 1,200 ammunition.
Mr Murtala Mani said some of the guns were surrendered during the amnesty initiative aimed at discouraging restiveness and criminal tendencies as well as encourage peaceful coexistence in the state.
He further revealed that some of the guns were recovered during the course of fire exchange between the criminal elements and the brave men of the command.
The commissioner further assured the people of the state of a work towards a crime-free society and peaceful environment. He said measures had been put in place to sanction all manufacturers of locally made weapons.
Mani said Sokoto is enjoying relative peace and appealed to the public to always report any suspicious movement or character to the police or any nearest security agency for prompt action.
