There are fresh indications emerging contrary to claims by the federal government that no ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped Dapchi school girls by Boko Haram insurgents.

A source, as quoted by SaharaReporters, who was involved in negotiations with Boko Haram that eventually resulted in the release of over 80 Chibok girls in 2017, said a sum of five million euros was paid to the abductors as ransom for the release of the Dapchi girls.

The report also stated some Boko Haram prisoners were released in return for the Dapchi girls.

However, as reported by Naija News, the federal government yesterday, disclosed no ransom was paid for the release of the kidnapped Dapchi girls.

The government said the release of the girls, was based on the outcome of “backchannel” negotiations.

The kidnapped Dapchi girls were yesterday morning, released by their Boko Haram abductors.
