Private Sector Would Play Advisory Role In National Food Security Council- Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that private sector would play advisory role i n National Food Security Council.

This was made known through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

He said the council which was inaugurated today 19th March, 2018 should endeavour that everyone is carried along. He said the clarification was necessary in view of reservations expressed by groups that felt left out after the composition was announced.

He said, “The Presidency wishes to affirm that the private sector will play an advisory role in the National Food Security Council recently announced by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The President is aware of the huge interest indicated by the private sector since the composition of the Council was announced, as well as the reservations expressed by groups that felt left out.

“We wish to emphasise that the Council constituted by the President was more of a think tank that would focus mainly on policy, while various groups from the private sector would be called upon to make sectoral presentations from time to time.

“Everybody will be carried along as the Council will work closely with all stakeholders.”

“The Council will be inaugurated by President Buhari on Monday, March 26.”

Shehu had earlier on Friday made it known that the council which Buhari will personally chair has the governors of Kebbi, Taraba, Plateau, Lagos, Ebonyi and Delta States as members.

Other members includes the Secretary to the Government of the Federation; the Chief of Staff to the President; the National Security Adviser and seven ministers.
