1. Buhari visits Dapchi school, meets parents of abducted Dapchi girls

President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday visited the Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, where 110 school girls were kidnapped by suspected Boko Haram fighters.

He also met with the parents of the kidnapped school girls in Yobe state.

2. Non academic staff of Nigerian universities call off 3 months old strike

Non-teaching staff of public universities in Nigeria, comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have called off their three months old strike.

This was disclosed by chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Samson Ugwoke, who addressed newsmen at a press conference at NAAT National Secretariat, Abuja.

3. Reps To Override Buhari On Peace Corps Bill, 9 Other Bills

The members of the House of representatives have decided to override President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to withhold assent from the bill establishing the Peace Corps of Nigeria.

This decision was announced by Abdulrazak Namdas, spokesman of the house during a press briefing on Wednesday.

4. Dapchi schoolgirls: I reacted better than Jonathan – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that the his administration’s response to the February 19 abduction of 110 students of Government Girls’ Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State was far better, compared to that of the Goodluck Jonathan‘s administration during similar abduction in Chibok Borno State in 2014.

Buhari said this at a town hall meeting with traditional/community leaders and other stakeholders in Damaturu, Yobe State as part of activities lined up for his official visit to the state.

5. APC aspirants fail to stop Oyegun’s tenure extension in court

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday refused the request to stop the tenures expansion of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and other officials of the party at the national, state, local government area, and ward levels across the country.

Four APC members aspiring to run for leadership positions of the party, who were in opposition to the decision by the National Executive Council of the APC to extend the four-year tenure of the party officials, file a suit to challenged the extension of tenure for the executive officers of the parties.

6. Metuh appears in court in a wheelchair, appeals to travel abroad for treatment

The former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, Wednesday pleaded with the Federal High Court in Abuja to release his international passport to enable him travel abroad for medical attention.

Metuh alongside his company, Destra Investment ltd, are standing trial on a seven-count charge bordering on money laundering to the tune of N400m.

7. Nigeria’s External Debt Rises to $18.9bn, Domestic Debt to N15.9tn

Nigeria’s external debt rose to $18.91 billion (N5.787 trillion) as at the end of December 2017, while domestic debt rose to N15.937 trillion, bringing the total debt stock of the country to N21.725 trillion ($70.92 billion), data released wednesday by the Debt Management Office (DMO), has shown.

At N21.725 trillion, the country’s total debt stock rose to a new high, from N17.36 trillion ($56.73 billion) at the end of 2016.

8. Wildfire guts Olusosun dump site in Lagos

A wildfire broke out on Wednesday at the Olusosun dump, in the Ojota area of Lagos State, consuming some vehicles, as residents panicked over possible health hazards of the smoke.

Many residents, motorists and commuters in the area were held in traffic as thick smoke billowed into the sky from the landfill.

9. Governor Lalong imposes curfew on Bassa local government area

The Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew on Bassa Local Government Area of the state with immediate effect.

The state government announced the curfew on Wednesday after another attack in the state in Dong and Rafiki communities.

10. Messi leads Barcelona to champions league victory over Chelsea

Two goals from Lionel Messi and a third from Ousmane Dembele was all Barcelona needed to edge pass the visiting team Chelsea on Wednesday to reach the Champions League quarter-finals 4-1 on aggregate.

Messi scored in between Thibaut Courtois’ legs from a tight angle inside the first three minutes of the game.
