Non-teaching staff of public universities in Nigeria, comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT) have called off their three months old strike.

Operating under the Joint Action Committee (JAC), the union members embarked on an indefinite strike action December last year, in protest of the sharing formula adopted by the federal government in the payment of the earned allowance for its members and counterparts in the academic union.

Other issues raised by the union include failure to implement 2009 agreements, disobedience of National Industrial Court’s order on funding of staff schools as well as corruption in the university system among others.

Chairman of the Joint Action Committee, Samson Ugwoke, who addressed newsmen at a press conference at NAAT National Secretariat, Abuja, on Wednesday, decried the failure of the federal government to always honour its promises.

He added that the industrial action could have been avoided.
