Three Die Of Lassa Fever In Ekiti State

Three people in Ekiti State have been confirmed dead in a fresh case of Lassa Fever in the state. Five out of the suspected 8 cases in the state have been confirmed to be negative, while one was uncertain, with the last pending as at press time.

This disclosure was made in a statement by the Commissioner of Health in the state, Dr  Rotimi Ojo in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.

The Commissioner of health assured that there is no cause for alarm as the State Disease Control team have been put on high alert, while the process of sensitising the people with jingles  and other communication media were ongoing.

He said that the three isolation centres located at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, Oba Adejuyigbe General Hospital, Ado Ekiti and  Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado Ekiti,  were still operational.

He appeal for the collaboration and cooperation of the stakeholders in the society, such as the health practitioners, traditional and religious leaders, teachers and opinion leaders with the government to prevent the spread of the disease.

Ojo also advised residents of  the state to embrace environmental sanitation practices and avoid self-medication, adding that any unusual increase in temperature or fever must be promptly reported to the nearest health facility.

Naija News Reported last week that the Centre for Disease Control Confirmed that about 90 people have died of Lassa Fever this year.
