President Donald Trump today sacked United States Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson  replacing him with Mike Pompeo who was director of the CIA.

His sack came only hours after he gave support to Boris Johnson, reassuring him of US support for the United Kingdom’s position against Russia over the Salisbury attack.

Trump had initially denied plans to oust Rex Tillerson and replace him with the CIA director, Mike Pompeo.

Mr Tillerson, a former chief executive of ExxonMobil, was only appointed to the job just over a year ago.

The president also nominated Gina Haspel to become the first woman director of the CIA.

In a Twitter Post Trump announced:

“Mike Pompeo, Director of the CIA, will become our new Secretary of State. He will do a fantastic job! Thank you to Rex Tillerson for his service! Gina Haspel will become the new Director of the CIA, and the first woman so chosen. Congratulations to all!”

Trump last Friday asked Tillerson to step aside, and the embattled top diplomat cut short his trip to Africa on Monday to return to Washington.
