1. We have no plans to hijack government – Military

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters yesterday, 8 March responded to a statement by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, regarding the Nigerian Military, while contributing to a debate on a motion sponsored by Senator Ahmed Ogembe, representing Kogi Central in which he alleged the military can still take over Nigeria.

The Military’s response was contained in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General J.A Agim.

2. Leave our daughters alone, Aisha Buhari tells Boko Haram

Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari has used the occasion of this year’s International Women’s Day celebration to call for the release of kidnapped Dapchi and Chibok school girls.

The first lady took to her social media accounts on Thursday, March 8, 2018, to make the appeal.

3. Rann Attack Claimed The Lives Of Four Policemen And Six Soldiers

The Commissioner for Police in Borno State has revealed that four policemen and six soldiers lost their lives in the Boko Haram attack in Rann community of Kala Balge Local Government Area of the state.

Mr. Damian Chukwu, The State Commissioner for Police made this known at a monthly police meeting in Maiduguri.

4. Governor Umahi orders arrest of deputy chief of staff, others

Ebonyi State Governor, Chief David Umahi, yesterday, ordered the immediate arrest of his deputy chief of staff, Prof. Fidelis Okpata, and other political appointees who hail from the warring Ekpomaka and Inyimagu communities in Abakaliki and Ikwo council areas of the state.

The governor directed the state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Titus Lamorde, who was at the meeting, to arrest the appointees and stakeholders from the two warring communities and detain them until peace was restored.

5. I am not aware of President Buhari’s planned visit to Rivers – Wike

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state, yesterday said the Federal Government has not informed him of President Muhammadu Buhari’s proposed visit to the state.

Wike stated this while flagging off the reconstruction of Egbelu Street and link roads in East-West in Rumuodara, Obio Akpor Local Government Area.

6. Reps approved N2bn for Ajaokuta steel project- Fayemi

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Thursday revealed that the House of Representatives duly appropriated the sum of N2,096,500.00 (Two billion, ninety six million, five hundred thousand naira ) for the concessioning of the Ajaokuta Steel Complex in the 2017 budget.

He wondered why the same House had now turned around to attack the Ministry for implementing the law.

7. Senate summons Police IG and Army chief over Dapchi girls

The Senate on Thursday, summoned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris and the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, to appear before its Joint Committees on Police Affairs, Security and Intelligence over the kidnap of secondary schoolgirls in Yobe and Borno States.

The security chiefs are expected to give updates on operational strategies put in place to rescue the abducted girls.

8. President Buhari extols Vice President Osinbajo at 61

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday, celebrated his Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo on the occasion of his 61st birthday celebration.

He commended the vice president for his unalloyed loyalty.

9. Senate probes alleged plans to remove Saraki, others

The Senate on Thursday began an investigation into the alleged plot by Senator Abdullahi Adamu and some other members to remove Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President.

The matter has been referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions by the Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary.

10. Arsenal stun AC Milan in Italy

Arsenal put up a spirited performance in Italy against AC Milan in their Europa league clash and came out victorious with a 2-0 victory over their opponents.

The victory lifts a lot of pressure off Arsenal and their manager who have not had results go their way in recent games.
