NAF Hosts Airpower Workshop for Defence Reporters

A one-day enlightenment workshop was held by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), yesterday for Defence Correspondents in Abuja.

The workshop which was organised by the Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) at Headquarters NAF, Abuja, witnessed a large turnout of journalists from different media organizations covering the Defence beat.

Naija News learnt that the workshop was geared towards equipping Defence Correspondents with the necessary skills and updated knowledge on the application of air power; Also, it was intended to educate Defence Correspondents with various air power terminologies so as to enhance professionalism in the reportage of NAF events thereby projecting the NAF in a more accurate and balanced manner.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Yahaya, stated that information management today is instrumental to national development.

He said the way information is processed could affect national security either positively or negatively.
“Therefore, a Defence Correspondent must understand the terminologies associated with his beat to enable him report events professionally”, he stated.

The CAS admonished the Defence Correspondents to ensure they make good use of the opportunity at hand to acquire as much knowledge about the NAF that is needed.

He said there is a need for Journalist to understand the intricacies of air operations as they strive to maintain peace in the country.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), Air Vice Marshal Olatokunbo Adesanya, praised the media for their commitment to reporting military activities.

He pointed out that the workshop was timely, as peoples’ expectation accurate and timely dissemination of information on NAF operations across the country is on the increase.
