1. Charles Okah sentenced to life imprisonment over 2010 independence day bombing

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday sentenced Charles Okah, the brother of a suspected militant, Henry Okah, to life imprisonment for treason for his involvement in twin car bombings in the capital, Abuja, in 2010.

Charles Okah had pleaded not guilty at the beginning of the trial, which took more than seven years.

2. Senate threatens to veto President Buhari on Peace Corps bill

Lawmakers in the upper house of the National Assembly, on Wednesday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to reconsider his stance on the bill to establish Peace Corps of Nigeria.

The Senate’s position is based on the adoption of a Point of Order raised by Sen. Dino Melaye during plenary in which he urged the Senate to take up the bill with a view to veto the president’s decision if he failed to reconsider his decision to reject the Peace Corps bill.

3. Senators reject bill to allow NYSC members wear skirts

A bill to amend the National Youth Service Corps Act by allowing the uniform worn by corps members to accommodate their religious belief has been rejected by the senate.

Participants would have been allowed to wear skirt or hijab, among others, if it had been passed.

4. Maryam Sanda granted bail by Abuja High Court

Maryam Sanda, daughter of Maimuna Aliyu, who is standing trial for the alleged murder of her husband, Bilyamin Bello, has on Wednesday, been granted bail by the Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja.

Maryam is standing trial for allegedly killing her husband over suspicion of infidelity.

5. Monthly salary of Nigerian senators revealed

Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly confirmed in a statement today Nigerian Senators are earning N13.5 million monthly as running cost.

This he noted was in addition to the N750,000 monthly consolidated salary and allowances of each member of the Senate.

6. Ekweremadu warns against military take over in Nigeria

Chief Ike Ekeweremadu, Deputy Senate President has warned against allowing for a military take over of power in Nigeria, as democracy is receding.

This he said in his contribution to a debate on a motion sponsored by Ahmed Ogembe over activities of Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello whom he accused of sponsoring hoodlums to disrupt an empowerment programme he organised for members of his constituents.

7. FG moves to probe Dana airline operations

Nigerian government has ordered an audit of domestic airline Dana Air after one of its planes overshot a runway in the city of Port Harcourt last month, the latest in a series of incidents, a presidency spokesman said on Wednesday.

This follows discussions by members of the federal executive council during their meeting at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja yesterday.

8. Why APC may loose Anambra governorship election – Senator

Senator Ben Uwajimogu has warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress may loose the gubernatorial election in Imo state if Governor Okorocha insists on fielding his in-law during the governorship elections in the state.

He advised that the party should not allow imposition of candidates.

9. Rohr releases 28-man Super Eagles list for world cup friendlies

Coach Gernot Rohr, has released a 28-man shortlist for the Super Eagles double international friendly matches against Poland and Serbia.

The Eagles will play Poland at the 43,000-capacity Stadium Wroclaw on March 23 before taking to the pitch four days later to play the Serbian national team at The Hive in London.

10. Juventus and Man. City make Champions league progress

Italian giants, Juventus and Premier league leaders, Manchester City both progressed to the quarter final stage of the UEFA champions league at the expense of Tottenham and Basel respectively.
