Neymar To Undergo Surgery In Brazil

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Neymar will have surgery in Brazil later this week after he sprained his right ankle and cracked his fifth metatarsal toward the end of Sunday’s 3-0 Ligue 1 win over Marseille. Naija News understands

The Ligue 1 leaders have revealed that after three days of rest and various tests, the only option available was to operate on the Brazilian superstar. Neymar will now miss next week’s Champions League round-of-16 second leg with Real Madrid at Parc des Princes.

“After tests, and with the player’s agreement, it has been decided that surgery is the best option,” PSG said in a statement. “Neymar Jr will be operated on in Brazil at the end of the week.”

PSG have not stated how long Neymar will miss, but in an interview with ESPN Brazil, his father indicated that it will be somewhere between six to eight weeks.

Later on Wednesday, Neymar posted a message to his Instagram account with a quote from Michael Jordan in the caption.It said: “Obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t give up. Figure out how to climb it.”

However, the youth academy graduate also revealed his sadness for his teammate and said he and the rest of the squad want to win for their fallen star.

“We are all sorry for Neymar,” Kimpembe said. “We are going to try to qualify [in the Champions League] for him. It is the team above everything else.”

This means he will return to action in plenty time for the FIFA World Cup in Russia which begins on June 14. In addition to missing PSG’s season-defining match against Real, Neymar will also sit out Brazil’s March friendlies against Russia and Germany.

Neymar became the world’s most expensive player in August when PSG paid 222 million euros ($271 million) to sign him from FC Barcelona. He has scored 28 goals and provided 16 assists for the Ligue 1 leaders this season.
