1. President Buhari rejects peace corps bill

President Muhammadu Buhari has communicated his decision not to sign the peace corps bill into law.

The President’s decision is contained in a letter read on the floor of the house by speaker Yakubu Dogara in which Buhari cited duplication of duties and scarce government fund as reasons for rejecting the bill.

2. FG sets up panel to probe kidnap of 110 Dapchi girls

The federal government has set up a 12-man committee to investigate circumstances surrounding the kidnap of 110 schoolgirls from the government science and technical college, Dapchi, Yobe state.

The committee has representatives of various stakeholders and has until March 15, 2018 to submit its report.

3. APC extends Odigie Oyegun’s tenure by one year

The All Progressives Congress, has extended the tenure of its national chairman, Odigie Oyegun as well as other members of its National Working Committee.

The decision was taken at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party yesterday.

4. Air force deploys 100 jets to search for Dapchi girls

The Nigerian Air Force has deployed 100 fighter jets to join in the search and rescue efforts of the 110 abducted Dapchi secondary school girls.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar has also relocated on Tuesday to Yobe State to personally oversee the rescue efforts.

5.  Saraki’s CCT trial adjourned till March 8

The trial of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), has been adjourned till March 8, 2018.

The trial was adjourned by the Code of Conduct Tribunal Chairman, Mr Danladi Umar, following claims by the defence lead Counsel, Mr Kanu Agabi, that he was served with the brief of the prosecution on Monday, February 26, 2018 which didn’t provide him enough time to study the brief.

6. How government negotiated with Boko Haram to secure release of kidnapped lecturers

The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Daura, has explained why government negotiated with Boko Haram in a bid to secure the release of abducted lecturers of the University of Maiduguri and 10 women.

According to him, negotiations represented the safest way to rescue the kidnapped individuals without putting their lives in danger.

7. US places new sanction on Boko Haram

The United States government has imposed new sanctions on the terror group, Boko Haram, and its factional leader, Mus’ab al-Barnawi.

The new sanctions by the U.S. Treasury Department targets the Islamic State and its affiliate networks around the world.

The U.S. department added Boko Haram, also known as ISIS-West Africa, to the sanction list for global terrorism.

8. National Assembly gets only 0.06% of national budget

Senator Barnabas Gemade who represents Benue North East in the upper legislative chamber of the National Assembly, has dismissed reports in some quarters that the federal legislature gets larger chunk of the nation’s income.

The Senator, revealed that the National Assembly gets only but 0.06 per cent of the national budget.

9. Death toll rises to 12, 1000 houses burnt in Kaduna crises

Up to 12 persons have been confirmed dead and several houses burnt in Kasuwan Magani, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

This is as a result of the bloody clash between the Christian and Muslim youths of the local government.

10. Real Madrid suffers another La Liga loss

Espanyol handed another defeat to Spanish giants, Real Madrid in their La Liga match played yesterday.

The game had been tied at 0-0 but a last minute goal from Espanyol condemned Madrid to another defeat in a game in which Christiano Ronaldo was rested.
