The Kwara State House of Assembly on Tuesday took further steps towards stopping the payment of pension to former governors, deputy governors and other public office holders in the state.

This follows the passage of an amendment bill seeking to halt payment of pension to all such public office holders.

The state lawmakers had considered the bill during plenary following the submission of the report by its Committee on Establishment and Public Service.

The lawmakers, sitting in Ilorin, the state capital, unanimously adopted the motion for the passage of the bill after the motion was was moved by the Deputy House Leader, Segilola Abdulkadir.

The Deputy Speaker, Matthew Okedare, who presided over the plenary, thereafter, directed the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Mohammed Katsina, to prepare a clean copy of the bill and forward same to the state governor, Alh. AbdulFatah Ahmed, for his assent.

Once signed, the law would prohibit the payment of pension to former governors, deputy governors and all other political office holders in such category in the state once their tenure  expires.
