Ebonyi State Police Command on Thursday arrested two men with guns and other dangerous weapons at a rally held in front of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in the state.

The police spokesperson, Loveth Odah, confirmed the arrest, saying the two suspects were in the crowd when they were sighted and arrested by officer.

“As the rally was going on at PDP Secretariat, two boys were arrested there. They both hail from Mgbo in Ohaukwu council area of Ebonyi State; they were arrested with locally made pistols. For that, the police began searching everybody to know if we could recover more guns,” she said.

Naija News gathered that the solidarity rally was organized by the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Ebonyi State chapter to endorse Governor David Umahi for a second term in 2019.

It was learnt that the group went to the Government House in Abakaliki where it was received by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Offor Okorie, before it proceeded to the PDP secretariat.

The police spokesperson, condemned the proliferation of arms in the state as the 2019 general election approaches.

She gave assurance that the police would ensure the protection of lives and property in the state and urged the members of the public to always be vigilant.
