Buhari Holds Meeting With Obasanjo, Jonathan Today

President Muhammadu Buhari will today, Thursday, holds Council of State meeting with all the former Presidents and Heads of State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, over insecurity threats and other challenges bedeviling the nation.

Former President Shehu Shagari, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former President Goodluck Jonathan are expected to be at the meeting.

Former military Heads of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon (retd.), Gen. Ibrahim Babangida (retd.), Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), and the former Chairman of the defunct Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, are also expected to be in attendance.

Others expected to attend the meeting are: Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President, Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; all the 36 state governors and the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, all living former Chief Justices of Nigeria; who are all members of the council.

The council has the statutory responsibilities of advising the President in the discharge of his duties and functions whenever requested to do so.

This is the third time the president is holding the meeting since he assumed office in 2015.
