1. Buhari is the best candidate for Nigeria in 2019 – aide

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Political Matters, Hon. Gideon Sammani, at a rally organised by the Democratic Youth Congress (DYC) at the Unity Fountain in Abuja, said President Buhari has the right credentials to lead Nigeria again in 2019.

He maintained that Buhari’s credentials include transparency, honesty and anti-corruption stand.

2. Police stop re-opening of Peace Corps office in Abuja

The face off between the Nigeria Police and the Peace Corps of Nigeria continued on Thursday as officers of the Nigeria Police prevented the corps from taking possession of its office located in Jabi, Abuja.

This follows a directive from the House of representatives directing the police to vacate and unseal the Peace Corps headquarters in Abuja.

3. Federal government admits fraud in its social investment programmes

The National Executive Council (NEC) has expressed  concerns that the federal government’s social investment programme is characterized by large scale corruption and fraud.

Briefing State House correspondents at the end of the monthly NEC meeting in the Presidential Villa, the Special Adviser to the President on Social Investment, Mrs. Maryam Uwais, said the programme was hampered by corruption and racketeering by some officials in the states whom she said took advantage of the level of prevalent illiteracy and poverty among aged citizens to perpetrate malpractices.

4. Buhari congratulates new South African President, Cyril Maraphosa

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated new South African President, Cyril Maraphosa on his emergence as the nation’s president.

Maraphosa took over from Jacob Zuma who was compelled by his party, African National Congress (ANC) to resign following corruption allegations leveled against him.

5. Ranching is the only solution to clashes between farmers and herdsmen – Governor

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba on Thursday said that the open grazing prohibition and ranches establishment law was the only way out of the conflicts between herdsmen and farmers in rural communities.

Mr. Ishaku said this when he received the American Ambassador to Nigeria, William Stuart, who paid him a courtesy call in Jalingo.

6. Amaechi wants Buhari to return in 2019

Minister of transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that corruption would return to Nigeria if Buhari is not re-elected in 2019.

He said this in a chat with newsmen in his office on Thursday.

7. APC crisis deepens in Kaduna State

The crisis rocking the Kaduna State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has deepened as disciplinary measures against the state governor and two of his aides for anti-party activities were announced Thursday by one of the factions claiming the leadership of the party.

The faction known as Kaduna Restoration Group also announced the relocation of the state secretariat of the party, along Ali Akilu road in Kaduna to Sambo Close.

8. Army places N3m bounty on Boko Haram leader, Shekau

The Nigerian Army has promised a Three Million Naira (₦3,000,000) cash reward to anyone with credible information that would lead to the arrest of fugitive factional leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday evening by the Director of Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Sani Usman.

9. Super Eagles drop in latest FIFA rankings

The Super Eagles of Nigeria dropped from 51st to 52nd position in the latest FIFA ranking report released on Thursday by the World’s football governing body.

The Eagles however maintained 7th position on the African continent.

10. Arsenal, Milan win big in Europa league

Arsenal and Milan both took control of their Europa league round of 32 clashes as both teams recorded 3-0 wins away from home.
