Court Fixes March 15 TO Arraign CCT Chairman
A High Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled March 15 for the prosecution of the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Bureau, Danladi Umar, over allegations of corruption.
The Federal Government had filed a two count charge bordering on corruption, against Mr Umar.
The case, with suit number CR/109/18, was signed by Festus Keyamo.
In the charge sheet, the FG accused Umar of requesting a bribe of 10 million naira, while presiding over a case with Charge No. CCT/ABJ/03/13 involving one Rasheed Owolabi Taiwo, in 2012, at Abuja.
The bribe was in exchange for a favour to be afterwards shown him over the pending Charge.
The CCT chairman has also been accused of receiving another 1.8 million naira from the said Rasheed Owolabi through his Personal Assistant Gambo Abdullahi, for a favour to be afterwards shown to him in relation to the pending charge in discharge of his official duties.
Both charges contravene Section 12(1) (a) & (b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2003.
Hence, the case has been assigned to the Chief Judge of the court, Justice Ishaq Bello.
