1. Armed attackers kill two NSCDC officers in Benue state

Two officers of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corps have been found dead in Guma local government area of Benue State following a gun battle with armed attackers.

The incident was confirmed by NSCDC spokesperson, Emmanuel Okeh, on Monday evening.

2. AGF orders resumption of arrested Boko Haram members

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, has directed the resumption of the judicial proceedings of the suspected Boko Haram terrorists detained in various parts of the country.

The AGF’s order was made known in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister, Mr Salihu Isah.

3. Police take over NHIS office in Abuja

Security operatives, yesterday stormed the headquarters of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Abuja, as workers continued their protest over the reinstatement of the Executive Secretary, Usman Yusuf.

The protest was initially by workers who are in support of President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision on February 6, 2018, to reinstate the NHIS boss.

But on getting to the NHIS headquarters, they encountered another group of workers protesting the reinstatement of the embattled Executive Secretary, who is under probe for alleged N919million fraud.

4. Edo youths move to block Oshiomole’s appointment by the FG

All Progressives Congress (APC) youths in Edo State, under the aegis of All Progressives Congress Youth Vigilante, have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the national leadership of the party not to consider former governor, Adams Oshiuomhole for any board appointment allocated to the state.

The youths are also canvassing a probe of the former governor for alleged corruption.

5. Grazing herdsmen invade Plateau University

Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University in Bokkos, Prof. Docknan Decent Sheni, has raised the alarmed over deathly grazing of cattle by Fulani herdsmen in the University premises.

Prof. Sheni stated this yesterday during a press briefing at the University in Bokkos explaining that the menace of cattle grazing within the campus has continued unabated despite steps been taken to curb the situation.

6. Governors give backing to state police agenda

Governors of the 36 states have thrown their weight behind the move to create state police.

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues, on the sidelines of the National Security Summit organised by the Senate, in Abuja, yesterday, said state police is the only solution to security challenges in the country.

7. President charges security operatives to beef up performances

President Muhammadu Buhari has yesterday, called on the various security outfits in the country to step up their efforts in combating the nation’s security challenges.

This comes on the heels of the urgent security meeting held by the president with security chiefs at the state house in Abuja.

8. Mind your own business, Ortom tells Lalong

The Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, has sounded a warning to his counterpart in Plateau State, Simon Lalong, to “mind his own business” and not to meddle in Benue affairs.

Ortom gave the warning to the representative of Lalong at the stakeholders’ meeting with the National Economic Council Technical Committee on Herdsmen/Farmers’ Crises Resolution on Sunday led by the Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, at the state house banquet hall.

9. Charly Boy leads PVC protest to INEC office

Popular entertainer and convener of ‘Our Mumu Don Do’ movement, Charles Oputa (aka Charly Boy), yesterday, led a protest to the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the handling of the voter’s registration exercise across the country.

He and his team were received on arrival by a senior police officer, Paul Odama and Muse Sekpe, Assistant Director, Security Directorate of INEC.

10. NFF appoints new coaches for national teams

The Nigeria Football Federation on Monday released the names of coaching crews of all the National Teams, except those of the Senior Men Team (Super Eagles), U-20 Women (Falconets) and U-17 Women (Flamingos) who still have a coaching team in place.

The appointment is with immediate effect as confirmed by chairman of the Technical and Development Committee, Alhaji Yusuf Ahmed.
