1. President Buhari mourns John Shagaya

President Muhammadu Buhari has sent condolences to the government and people of Plateau state over the recent death of  Senator John Shagaya.

Shagaya died in a road accident over the weekend while on a journey to his home town.

2. Boko Haram releases abducted UNIMAID lecturers, police wives

Three lecturers of the University of Maiduguri kidnapped when on a mining exploration by Boko Haram have been freed.

Also released from the Boko Haram terrorists are 10 women, kidnapped in a raid by the militant group on a military/police convoy on Damboa road, near Maiduguri.

Their release follows a successful negotiation between the terrorists and the government with the International Committee of the Red Cross also involved in the negotiation.

3. APC wins big in Kano local government elections

The All Progressives Congress, (APC) has been declared winner of the 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship seats in the Kano state local government elections by the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC)

The Peoples Democratic Party has however alleged wide spread rigging in the events that led to the declaration of the results.

4. JAMB suspends worker accused of complexities in the N36m swallowed by a snake

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) has suspended its employee, Philomina Chieshe, on account of N36m which was reported to have been swallowed by a snake in the board’s office in Makurdi, Benue State.

The development was confirmed by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin.

5. Russian passenger plane crash claim several lives

A Russian passenger plane crashed near Moscow soon after take-off on Sunday, killing all 71 people on board, and investigators said they were looking at all possible causes.

The office of Russia’s transport prosecutor said all 71 people on board had been killed. Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov confirmed there were no survivors and said DNA tests would be needed to identify the dead.

6. Sanusi taks Miyetti Allah to reveal killer herdsmen

The Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has ordered herdsmen, under the aegis of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, to expose criminals amongst them.

The monarch, who maintained Fulani herdsmen were not criminals, expressed regrets they were been labelled as such.

7. Ohanaeze cautions politicians ahead of 2019 elections

The apex Igbo socio-political organization, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has described as suspicious, the nature and motives of the alliance being sought by the Northern leaders.

The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prince Uche Achi- Okpaga, noted that the alliance could be just for the purpose of the 2019 general elections.
